ABOUT THE JOB:
The Peer Navigator will work with the CMHA program called BounceBack: Reclaim your Health, which is a structured self-help program for anxiety and depression. The Peer Navigator will provide support to the BounceBack Program Manager, Coaches and office visitors by handling a variety of tasks in order to ensure that all interactions between the organization and others are positive and productive.
We are looking for a master multi-tasker with excellent communication skills and an upbeat attitude. Candidates should be able to assist management and visitors by handling office tasks, providing polite and professional assistance via phone, mail, and email, taking registrations and generally being a helpful and positive presence in the workplace.
To be successful the Peer Navigator must be comfortable to disclose that they are experiencing or have experienced mental health or addiction issues. By sharing their experience and recovery history, they are seeking to bring renewed hope, serve as role models, and provide inspiration, support, and information to people who are going through situations similar to the ones they went through.
Candidates should be professional, polite, and attentive while also being accurate. They should always be prepared and responsive, willing to meet each challenge directly. They must be comfortable with computers, general office tasks, and excel at both verbal and written communication. Most importantly, they should have a genuine desire to meet the needs of others.
- Provide administrative support to the New Brunswick BounceBack team
- Reception, be the first point of contact for program inquiries
- Register participants, ensure accurate information for the participant management database
- Maintain a sufficient inventory of program materials
- Ensure program materials are sent to participants in a timely fashion
- Build trusting, recovery-oriented rapport with program participants
- Schedule initial and follow up appointments for participants
- Provide input by actively participating in team meetings
- Selectively utilize personal recovery experience to provide hope and empowerment
- Perform other related duties as assigned
You will have a college diploma combined with relevant work experience. Additional skills and experience are as follows:
- Bilingualism is mandatory.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French and English
- Excellent computer literacy skills (MS Office 365 / Databases)
- Strong organizational abilities
- Ability to ensure the security and confidentiality of participant information and records
- Effective interpersonal skills, ability to problem solve, use good judgement and work independently
- Awareness/sensitivity to all types of issues related to participant diversity
- Flexibility and ability to adapt creatively to stressful situations
- Graduate of the Certified Peer Support Training would be an asset
- A recent satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector check is required.
- The work location is CMHA of New Brunswick, Fredericton office
- The usual workweek is 37.5 hours
- Flexible working hours including weekday evenings
- Some limited travel is expected
